Newsletter Q1 2026

Brothers and Sisters,

Welcome to the rebirth of the CUPE 3433 Newsletter. It is our intention to provide this update to the members approximately once per quarter, shortly (🙄) after each General Membership Meeting.

In each issue we’ll offer a recap of what’s gone on since the last one, provide a message from the president and give a list of the upcoming events and opportunities available to the membership.

If you have anything that you would like to see included in upcoming issues, please, don’t hesitate to contact me or any other member of the executive.

Yours in solidarity,
Jordon Davidson
Communications Officer (Interim)
CUPE 3433

President’s Message

A belated Happy New Year to all of our MASA members and their families. Our Union accomplished a lot in 2025, including a new contract and a $3,185 raise for every member. That, accompanied with the elimination of the Minimum and Step 1 levels on the payscale, means that our lowest paid members got a 13.6% increase! We continue to work on making life better at MtA and we look forward to working with you all this year. We would love to hear from you about any issue that comes up, but from negotiating we have identified some problem areas where we need some more information:

  1. If you applied for a job inside the bargaining unit and did not get the job but an external (non-MASA) candidate did, we want to hear from you.
  2. If your supervisor asks you to work “Cooperative Time” per article 21.02, we want to hear about it.

Feel free to reach out to me or any member of the executive directly.

In Solidarity,
K.C. Hingley
President, CUPE local 3433
Mount Allison Staff Association

Since Last Time

The November 2025 GMM was very well attended and the membership was treated to an passionate update from K.C. regarding the Nov 20th Town Hall and the tentative employment agreement that came about 4 days later. The vote was held shortly thereafter and by a narrow majority that deal was accepted and all back pay was received on the final paycheque of the year. WE anticipate that the final draft of the agreement will be available to all in paper or PDF format shortly.

As usual in the November GMM the membership continued to show their generosity to the community by voting to donate $300 each to 12 local charities and to extend a $500 gift to the NB Media Co-Op to assist in their good work.

Andrea deBruijn noted that no new grievances had been filed since the September GMM and that show would be holding a Grievance Process Lunch & Lean on the 16th of December. That event was very well attended and by all accounts provided members with a great understanding of the process and the utility of filing grievances to preserve the integrity of the CBA.

At the meeting Jordon Davidson was acclaimed to the position of Interim Communications Officer and Alana Estabrooks was acclaimed to sit on the Joint Job Evaluation Committee.

The Social Committee held the annual Holiday Social on December 9th and all who attended were not disappointed. And, in the Holiday spirit, Jessalyn and Charline delivered a choice of 3433 branded scarf or touque to the membership just before the holiday break.
